Technology is changing how caregivers provide support for people with Alzheimer’s disease. They use a wide range of tools, including GPS trackers, app reminders and telehealth visits. These provide peace of mind and structure.
FIU graduate research assistant Ruth Marquez shared her experiences with the effect of technology on patients.
“One of the things that I hear a lot is that I need to have my calendar most updated on my phone because otherwise, how am I going to remember that I need to go to this place or go to this appointment,” said Marquez. “For them, that is their lifeline.”
Marquez says that as technology continues to advance, caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s will have even more tools at their disposal. They will have more ways to manage daily challenges, enhance safety and improve quality of life.
