Amazon purchases MGM Studios for $9 billion (includes video story)

This week, Amazon will be buying MGM Studios, which owns famous films like “the Hobbit” and the James Bond series. Also, Warner Media will be partnering with Discovery, Warner media’s platforms include HBO Max, DC, TNT, and TBS.

HBO Max announced it will be hosting same-day movie release; that means when some movies open in theaters, they will also be on the streaming platform.

Streaming service deals give consumers variety when they are choosing where to watch their favorite TV shows. For example, Hulu has a $12 a month membership if a customer adds ESPN, HBO Max, and Disney Plus. Amazon prime is $13 a month with fast and free delivery, plus customers can watch popular Amazon prime shows like “The Boys” and “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

These deals also create competition among streaming platforms and cable companies like Dish Network and Comcast. When prices are too high for traditional TV, a consumer will pay $7 or $12 for a streaming service rather than $90 per month for basic cable.
