Americans look to retire abroad (includes video story)

According to a 2024 Monmouth University poll, the number of Americans looking to settle outside of the United States has tripled since 1974.

“The pace of life can be a lot slower in a lot of other countries than it is in the United States,” says Jennifer Stevens, the executive editor of a magazine called “International Living.” “That’s because the cost of health care is so much lower in a lot of other countries.”

However, experts suggest thinking about estate planning, currency, taxes and investments before making the decision to retire overseas.

Stevens also recommends going with an open mind when thinking about retiring outside of the United States.
