Annual Air and Sea Show shakes up Miami Beach for America’s 250th (includes video)

Locals who headed to South Beach got more than the wind and the waves this past Memorial Day weekend. The Hyundai Air and Sea Show, which came to town Saturday and Sunday, was filled with demonstrations that showed off America’s airpower.

Many types of aircraft graced the skies above Miami, including B-1 and B-52 bombers, which roared by in high-speed passes.

Fighter aircraft such as the F-22 and F-35 demonstrated their quick-turning abilities and even used flares to show off their countermeasure abilities when under attack.

The true highlight of the show was the Air Force elite demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, which consists of six red, white, and blue-painted F-16 Fighting Falcons.

“It’s great to feel American air power,” said a pilot who gave his name only as Red and flew at the beginning of the show with fellow airmen based at Homestead Air Reserve Base. “These guys ..  fly closer than any other demonstration team in the world, and it’s always a spectacle.”
