Art Miami returns, celebrating 35 years with global showcase of contemporary art (includes video story)

Art Miami returns to the One Herald Plaza in downtown Miami this week for its 35th anniversary, transforming the city into an international platform for contemporary artworks. The art fair attracts a broad collector base, from art dealers to museum curators, who acquire works from the forefront of the contemporary, modern, post-war and pop eras.

Among them is returning artist Shana Dyan, whose resin-based sculptures aim to bring people together.

“People here in Miami love happiness,” said Dyan. “The goal of this artwork is to connect everyone, even if we come from different cultures.”

Many pieces this year explore themes of identity, the environment and storytelling. For Mark Billings, founder and owner of BlackDove, a gallery focused on digital artworks, the fair highlights a new generation of digital-native creators.

“We’re living in a technology age,” said Billings. “All of the ideas you’re seeing here represent an open mindset.”

Art Miami runs from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7. To find out more information click here.
