A baby bull shark was spotted swimming at Lakes Park, a popular and kid-friendly recreation ground, this Tuesday in Fort Myers.
Since the city was in Hurricane Helene’s path, experts believe the flooding caused by the system may have pushed the shark towards the public park, where it stayed after the waters receded.
“It definitely could be related,” said Florida Gulf Coast University graduate student Susannah Cogburn. “Looking at the geography of where Lakes Park is, it pushed that shark there and then, when the water receded, it just stayed.”
Even though Cogburn says the freshwater could add stress to the shark, it will survive as long as there is enough food in the lake.
