For over 30 years, the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Kendall has been a literary hotspot for readers and a study haven for students. But on Sept. 24, the bookstore will be closing its doors and moving out less than a mile away, with a “Rooms to Go” taking its place.

Sales and discounts are in effect on all store items while supplies are packaged ahead of the move. Segments of the store, such as the music floor, the children’s area and the Starbucks cafe, are closed off.

For its final weekend, locals and employees reflected upon the bookstore’s impact on the Kendall community throughout the years.

“This is the number one store here,” said store manager Anthony Gonzalez. “I’m having bittersweet feelings about seeing this place go.”

“The location itself that they’re moving to looks so small,” visitor Erica McGuire added. “And I’m like, ‘How are they going to fit this giant, beautiful, luxurious place into that tiny little hole in the wall?’”

The Barnes and Noble will reopen at the Palms at Town and Country later this October.
