Miami’s Frank Fernandez: From Cubs fan to World Baseball Classic announcer (includes video story)

Frank Fernandez, raised in the heart of Miami, grew up a huge baseball fan. While playing in the fields of Tamiami as a kid, he watched the Chicago Cubs.

When the Marlins came to town in the early 90s, Fernandez had no idea of the impact this would have on his life. In 2021 he was offered the position of backup PA announcer for the team.

This set in motion a new journey that would lead him to becoming the PA announcer at LoanDepot Park for the World Baseball Classic.

His voice was heard in dozens of countries– announcing the group stages, quarter and semi-finals, and last night, he concluded the classic by voicing the final.

Correction: Because of an editing error, a prior version of this story misidentified where Frank Fernandez is the public address announcer.
