A black cowboy breaks the stigma barriers (includes video story)

The stereotype of the American Cowboy has always been a fair-skinned man. But one Arkansas cowboy just happens to be Black, and he is forming an organization to break the stereotype.

Daniel Moore, 21, started Pine Bluff’s Black Rodeo, a group responsible for bringing Black rodeo to a place not far from Memphis.

“If we [look] back to history, African Americans were the first cowboys,” said Moore.

The young cowboy says that attending a Black rodeo is the perfect way to reintroduce the community to its own culture. And everybody can have a good time.

Last year’s event included 100 competing horses. Now Moore looks forward to celebrating African American heritage, while fostering Black participation in rodeo sport.
