Black Friday at Sweat Records: A tradition (includes video story)

Independent record shop Sweat Records will be participating in Record Store Day/Black Friday on Nov. 27 and Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28. Located in Little Haiti, this iconic shop will offer discounts, exclusive Black Friday vinyl releases and DJ sets.

Owner and co-founder of Sweat Records Lolo Reskin opened the shop in 2005 and has catered to Miami music lovers ever since.

“We do a cool thing where if you’re waiting in line before 7 a.m. you get to call one pick that, as supplies allocate, will be set aside for you so you definitely go home with something you love,” she said. “We’ve been doing that for years and people love it, so we get a really great turnout early in the morning.”

The shop implemented various measures to keep customers safe while shopping. Face masks are required and a maximum of five shoppers are allowed inside the store for a limited time. Upon entry, customers must sanitize their hands before touching the records.

Customer Axl Vilverde recently purchased vinyl records while following the store’s safety guidelines.

“This is the kind of music that I listen to when I want to just chill at home and relax with a glass of wine,” he said. “We were reinforced to sanitize our hands when we arrived, we also do it by default. So we know that especially with records, everyone is touching them.”
