Bodycam footage shows fatal officer-involved shooting in Fort Lauderdale (includes video story)

On Dec. 29, 2024, Jalen Moore, 22, was fatally shot by Fort Lauderdale officers. This week, police released bodycam footage of the incident, revealing new details about the ongoing investigation.

The department received four calls from Moore’s family members, stating that the 22-year-old was experiencing a mental health crisis. He was armed and suicidal.

Bodycam footage shows the officers arriving at the scene and attempting to de-escalate the situation. However, Moore held his brother hostage at gunpoint while exiting the home, refusing police commands to drop his weapon. Three officers fired their guns, fatally striking Moore while his brother fled to safety.

“When Moore continued to endanger his brother’s life as well as the officers’, three officers were forced to discharge their firearms and save the brother’s life,” said Major Patrick Hart of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
