Families from across South Florida gathered at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines on Saturday for the annual Special Needs Fair, hosted by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. The event brought together more than 60 agencies, all offering specialized resources, services and activities aimed at supporting children with special needs and their families.
Designed to be both informative and welcoming, the fair created a space where families could access valuable information, make meaningful connections and feel part of a supportive community.
“It’s incredible because every time we go to look for different types of events, it’s overwhelming,” said Erika Almeida, who attended in support of her nephew with autism. “But we manage to emphasize what he needs the most.”
The fair featured a wide range of exhibitors, from therapy providers and educational specialists to community organizations and recreational programs. Organizers emphasized the importance of collaboration in serving the special needs community.
“We do partner with several organizations that are here today,” said Kacee Reid, manager of community relations at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. “We are able to promote our own internal services, whether it’s speech therapy or rehab.”
Admission was free, and attendance was strong, reflecting a growing demand for accessible, inclusive resources in the region.
Organizers hope to continue expanding the fair in future years, with a commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring families feel supported every step of the way.
“This fair is about more than just resources,” Reid added. “It’s about helping families feel seen, heard, and connected.”
