Chinese apps are among most popular in US (includes video story)

Last month’s Congressional hearing with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is drawing attention to how Chinese apps have become immensely popular among Americans and what factors contribute to their success.

In March, four of the five most downloaded apps were from China. TikTok, Temu, Capcut and Shein have become influential in promoting trade, products and ideals but most Americans are unaware of their Chinese ownership.

Chinese tech companies spend money on ads and consumer outreach. Florida International University Professor Lennay M. Chapman explains why these apps are trying to win over American audiences.

“By getting your app in the pockets of American consumers you become potentially a more attractive app for these advertisers,” said Chapman.

Chapman mentioned that most American consumers who use Chinese apps are more likely to continue their usage and interaction with these platforms.
