One of the four major league free agents that the Miami Marlins signed this offseason was right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack, a name that a lot of fans are familiar with.
Paddack, 30, was selected in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Marlins, but was traded to the San Diego Padres in 2016, as Miami acquired Fernando Rodney.
Now in 2026, Paddack signed with the team that signed him.
Through five appearances (four starts) this season, Paddack has a 6.38 ERA, 4.64 FIP, 3.59 xFIP, 9.38 K/9 and 2.25 BB/9 in 24.0 innings pitched. In his most recent start, which came on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals, Paddack allowed five runs on eight hits, one walk and struck out eight.
Although the numbers may show that Paddack has struggled, the underlying numbers show that he has been the source of some bad luck. It’s still early in the season, but a veteran with seven years of service time can bounce back.
