The rise of online resale platforms like Thrifted.com and Etsy has made vintage shopping more accessible, trustworthy, and convenient. Designer resale items are a part of the secondhand market’ they make up about 28% of wardrobes.
“You can’t go to a second-hand shop looking for something too specific,” says Clementina Jackson. “You go in the hopes of finding something fabulous, and when you see a piece that you love, you buy it regardless of season or occasion.”
The fashion industry produces more carbon emissions than air travel and maritime transport combined, and if current patterns persist, it could consume 25% of the global carbon budget by 2050. Buying vintage clothing is a form of reuse — a sustainable alternative that helps counteract this waste.
