The Coconut Grove Arts Festival kicks off this Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. with its first-ever Friday night concert, An Evening Under the Stars. Melinda Rose Rodriguez, a Miami jazz vocalist who sang on the 17th season of The Voice, is opening for Emily Estefan. Estefan recently told Local 10 News there will be a few surprises as well as a collaboration with street artist, Abstrk. The venue’s view of Biscayne Bay sets the mood for a romantic Valentine’s Day date.
The event will have a wide arrangement of food, with vegan and gluten-free options. Drinks will also be available.
Concert tickets cost $30, however, there is a Valentine’s Day package for couples: two tickets for $50. Each ticket includes a day pass to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, which is usually $15 for adults. Kids under 12 years old enter for free.
The 57th annual arts festival is being held from Feb. 15 to 17. More than 360 artists will be there to showcase their work. Food vendors and performers will also be present to cater to guests, and there will be interactive programs designed for kids.
Emily Estefan, daughter of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, is an accomplished drummer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and singer. A graduate from Berklee College of Music, she was selected as Elvis Duran’s artist of the month in 2017. Estefan started her own music label, Alien Shrimp Records, co-wrote “If I Never Got to Tell You”, the only original song for the Broadway musical On Your Feet, and sang the theme song for Disney Plus’ show Diary of a Future President.
Rodriguez is opening the concert the same week. She is making her debut at Birdland, a historic jazz club in New York City dubbed “The Jazz Corner of The World by Charlie Parker.” Rodriguez regularly performs in central Illinois and Miami.
