Fans react to College Football National Championship matchup (includes video story)

As the Peach Bowl semifinal unfolded last Friday, fans across Florida gathered for watch parties. They were eager to see which team, the Indiana Hoosiers or the Oregon Ducks, would advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship and play against the Miami Hurricanes.

At Grail’s, a sports bar in Wynwood, a few dozen people gathered to witness who would move forward.

Indiana quickly took control when an interception was returned for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. The team was led by Heisman-winning quarterback and Miami native Fernando Mendoza, who threw five touchdown passes. Indiana’s defense complemented the offense, forcing critical stops and turnovers that kept Oregon from finding any rhythm.

Despite Oregon’s attempts to rally, stalled drives and costly mistakes prevented a comeback. Indiana pulled away for a commanding 56–22 victory, securing their place in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Fans at Grail’s celebrated, looking forward to Indiana’s highly anticipated matchup against the Canes.

“I got nothing but love for the Hoosiers,” said Indiana fan Elliot Stone, who also happens to be a University of Miami alumnus.
