College students’ anxiety on the rise (includes video story)

More than half of college students fear the future, according to a recent survey published by Fortune magazine. Anxiety continues to grow among the demographic, Factors contributing to the stress include housing, parental expectations and commuting to school.

“I have a lot of anxiety and a lot of worries considering that my sibling and I are the first people to attend college in our family,” Ashley Montero, a college freshman, said. “My parents… I feel like I have the responsibility to provide for them.”

Time and time again, undergrads make sacrifices in hope of creating a future for themselves.

“Of course, there are outside factors that affect how students relate to or integrate into courses or integrate into college life all together,” said Karla Kennedy, a professor at Florida International University.

Janetssy Lugo is a student at Florida International University majoring in digital journalism. She loves reading, baking and listening to Bad Bunny. Working at a radio station is one of her goals as well as traveling the world.

Cindy Claros is a senior majoring in Digital Media/Broadcasting Journalism. After graduation, she hopes to work in the entertainment industry and for shows such as "Good Morning America" and "The Real" or start her podcast.

Gabriela Perez is a senior FIU student majoring in Digital Media and communications/Broadcasting Journalism. After graduation, she would like to work in the entertainment industry as either a magazine editor or as an Anchor/Presenter. Her favorite getaway places are New York City and Los Angeles California. She enjoys reading, watching films, traveling and writing. She hopes to inspire others, to go after what their hearts desire.
