The annual Congressional Baseball Game lit up Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, bringing together lawmakers from both sides of the aisle for a night of friendly competition and charitable giving. This longstanding tradition dates back over 100 years and is a major fundraising event that has generated millions for local causes.
In a time of deep political division, the game offered a rare moment of unity. Members of Congress set aside policy debates to took the field for a greater purpose.
Spectators noted how refreshing it was to see collaboration.
“It’s really cool to see kind of the Senate and the House come together and be able to actually have some sportsmanlike conduct,” said Ph.D candidate Sophie Ashbrook, who attended the game.
For the fifth consecutive year, Republicans won 13 to 2. This year’s event raised over $3 million for nonprofits, including the Capitol Police Memorial Fund, the Washington Literacy Center and the Boys & Girls Club.
