Cooper City man faces charges after deadly crash that split car in half (includes video story)

A busy street is back in operation and a man is facing charges after a crash turned deadly in Cooper City on Sunday.

Remnants of tire marks, cut trees and a downed utility pole told the story near Sheridan Street and Solano Avenue where Broward County police found a car mangled on the westbound lane.

Ivan Billie Jr., 25, was arrested on the scene after police say he was driving almost 200 miles per hour and swerved into the center median. The accident killed the passenger in the car.

“The first thing he said was that he was a Seminole,” said Assistant State Attorney Ross Weiner. “It was to indicate as if they didn’t have jurisdiction over him.”

Sheridan Street and Solano Avenue reopened Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
