Police release body cam footage of officers who shot teen (includes video story)

The fatal police shooting of 17-year-old Dalaneo Martin by an officer in Washington, D.C., has been the subject of a civil rights investigation by the FBI and federal prosecutors. It occurred last month after the teenager was discovered sleeping in an allegedly stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, the body camera footage of U.S. Park Police and Washington Metropolitan Police officers shooting Martin was released. It shows the fatal encounter that took place last month on March 18.

Dalaneo’s mother, Terra Martin, told reporters on Wednesday that all of the officers involved should have been detained for first-degree murder and that her son should still be living.

“My son should still be here,” Terra Martin said. “I want all the officers punished for all their roles. This pain hurt so bad. I just want justice for my son.”

The Metropolitan Police Department says it has so far not found any evidence that MPD officers violated protocols.

The officers involved in the shooting have returned to duty, according to MPD.
