Deadline to file taxes moved to April 18 (includes video story)

The last day to file federal taxes for 2022 will be a bit later this year because the normal deadline, April 15, falls on a Saturday and the following Monday is a District of Columbia holiday. This pushes the deadline to Tuesday, April 18.

The Internal Revenue Service will begin offering tax filing help this weekend. It will also open tax prep centers for walk-ins.

Filing 2022 taxes is supposed to be easier than in the pandemic years, which included timulus payments and advanced child taxes credits.

The IRS extended the tax filing deadline for Americans impacted by recent natural disasters even further. Storm victims in parts of Mississippi and Arkansas will have until July 31, and residents and businesses in parts of California, Alabama and Georgia can file until Oct. 16 .
