An investigation is underway after a Delta flight headed from Minnesota’s Twin Cities to Toronto skidded upon landing, burst into flames, and flipped over on the runway. The flight crew and all 80 passengers survived, and of the 21 passengers that were injured, only one is still in the hospital.
A cause for the crash has not been determined yet, but Toronto Pearson International Airport president Deborah Flint said the area saw unprecedented levels of snowfall in the days leading up to the incident.
“In fact, it is more snow in that time window than we received in all of last winter,” said Flint.
Delta Airlines is offering each passenger $30,000, saying the offer “has no strings attached” and does not affect any rights the passengers may have. It is not known yet how many will take the offer, but if they all do, the airline will pay a total of almost $2.3 million in compensatory damages.
