West Miami Democrats mobilize for 2026 midterms (includes video story)

About 30 West Miami Democrats gathered at a local tavern Tuesday evening to plan for the upcoming midterm elections, bringing together voters, organizers and candidates to discuss key issues and campaign priorities.

Attendees cited concerns including high housing costs and the rising cost of living.

Many described the meeting as a chance to stay informed and get more involved in the political process.

“I think we also need younger people to come on board because they have more at stake than we do,” says attendee Mercedes Palomo, a longtime Democrat.

Justin Routt, a candidate for Florida House District 113, emphasized the importance of voter outreach and community engagement.

“What we’re hearing from voters is a consistent message: they want solutions,” Routt says. “What are you going to fight against? What are you going to bring to make my life better?”

On the ballot in Florida are races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, along with contests for the U.S. House and a special U.S. Senate race. The midterm elections are Nov. 3, 2026.
