On Friday, First Lady Casey DeSantis left the door open for a run in Florida’s 2026 gubernatorial elections at FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus.
When asked if she would look to replace her husband who is termed out, she quoted baseball legend Yogi Berra: “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis has been supportive of her running. He said, “I’ve had people coming to me for years begging to get her in the fray. I mean she’s passionate, she’s articulate, she’s smart.”
This comes after he seemed opposed to President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Naples Congressman Byron Donalds for the Governor’s Mansion.
“You’ve got a guy like Byron,” said DeSantis at a news conference in Tampa. “He just hasn’t been a part of any of the victories that we’ve had here over the left these last years.”
The governor and first lady joined FIU President and former lieutenant governor Jeanette Nuñez to announce increased funding in cancer research in Florida through the state’s Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program.
Casey DeSantis, a breast cancer survivor herself, sent a message to families suffering from the malady
“If I can stand here and I can fight for you,” she said, “know that there is hope, and fight for yourself, and fight for your loved ones.”
