At the Doral Cultural Arts Center, young minds gathered for a special storytime led by Venezuelan author and publisher Lismar Marcano. Through stories rich in warmth and culture, the event introduced Spanish-language books celebrating family traditions and daily life.

Marcano read “¿Qué hay para cenar?” and “En casa de mis abuelos,” two illustrated children’s books by other Latin American authors. Though she didn’t write them herself, she selected these stories to encourage the use of Spanish at home and promote early childhood literacy.

Founder of a publishing house in Venezuela, Marcano sees storytime as more than just reading — but as an opportunity to nurture identity and connection.

“It’s beautiful to see children engaged with stories that sound like home,” she said.

Her passion lies in elevating Latin American voices through books that reflect real experiences and cultural values.
