The city of Doral offers film showcase celebrating international and local films (includes video story)

This past Saturday, the city of Doral offered its residents a different form of entertainment, showcasing a series of international and local films that explored a variety of themes, from AI taking over humans to an adventure in Little Haiti.

“The important thing is to create culture, to unite, to have other types of entertainment beyond what we already know, perhaps going out to eat or just going anywhere,” said actress Wendy Regalado. “It’s nice to have a change, to have a separate art option to enjoy.”

In partnership with the city of Doral, the Miami Short Film Festival showcased a total of five films from different parts of the world, two of them were local films: Little Haiti by X.F. Serrano, and Besties, Borders and Barks by Inga Moren Tapias.

“[Little Haiti] won the Miami Short Film Festival Best Local. It also won the Miami Film Festival, which is another big festival that has been in business for 39 years,” said William Vela, director of the festival. “So we’re pretty happy that things are moving on.”

This showcase is only part of a bigger event. The Miami Short Film Festival takes place November 14-16 across different venues in Miami-Dade county. The goal of the festival is to support the work of more than 50 short films out of thousands submissions from up-and-coming directors, producers and actors from all over the world.

“It’s important that all the community get involved in this because not only it helps the festival, but it also helps the industry to have more platforms such as this one,” said Vela.
