Dr. Jose Dotres looks ahead to the future

Inspicio, our sister magazine, published interviews with Miami-Dade County Public School (M-DCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jose L Dotres, who is leading the fourth largest school district in the nation.

Dotres was born in Cuba and immigrated to Miami with his family at five. He was enrolled in M-DCPS and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Florida International University. After having numerous administrative and instructional roles over his career, he was chosen as superintendent in February 2022.

“The passion for this community, the belief that I have in the individuals that truly make up this incredible school district, the belief in education that this community has, was a natural attraction for me to come back,” said Dotres.

Dotres is passionate about teaching the whole child, and seeks to amplify multiple pathways to post-secondary education for graduates. He is also focused on the importance of art and sports in the fabric of the Miami-Dade County Public School system.
