Recent statistics reveal a concerning rise of drunk driving deaths among young adults.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, young adults between 21-24 accounted for 29% of all fatal alcohol-impaired crashes in 2024. While many schools have implemented educational measures to combat this issue, the effectiveness of these programs has been questioned.
In Miami Beach, Officer Don Damus shared the difficulties police face in these situations: “Anytime they’re drinking, a lot of people always feel like they’re doing nothing wrong… they act belligerent, curse you out.”
As the problem persists, families and friends are urging young people to make safer choices, while law enforcement emphasizes the importance of accountability before tragedy strikes.
