FBI addresses World Cup security protocols and concerns in South Florida (includes video story)

The FBI held a press conference at the Miramar office, located at 2030 SW 145th Ave., on May 29 to discuss safety measures ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Roughly two years after an incident during the Copa America Final, where fans broke into Hard Rock Stadium, Miami has become the main concern for security.

“Every event like this carries certain amounts of risk,” said FBI co-deputy director Andrew Bailey. “However, the partnerships, the coordination beforehand and the lessons learned help mitigate against those risks.”

The meeting addressed restrictions banning the usage of drones within a three-mile radius of the stadiums and fan festivals, and up to 3,000 feet above the ground level on game days.

“This includes civil penalties, fines up to $100,000, up to a year in prison and a seizure of your drone,” said Brett Skiles, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Miami field office.
