On Tuesday, the fifth edition of the “Feast for the Streets” event took place in Miami. Several organizations joined together to coordinate an annual Thanksgiving drive-through, where families arrived in their cars to receive turkeys and other ingredients for their “turkey day” dinner.
Rina Shirley was one of hundreds of people who received a turkey, soft drinks and a bag full of meals to prepare at home for the holiday.
“It felt really good to get a turkey and have a good time at the same time,” Shirley said. “It felt delicious, it felt good.”
Deputy Director Cassandra Jones explained that each year is unique, but the goal remains the same.
“To make sure that those people who are less fortunate have food for Thanksgiving,” Jones said.
Miami-Dade County Police and Corrections officials, South Promo, and a law firm were among the many organizations that came together to organize the event.
Children also participated in the event, helping to distribute the food directly to the cars in line.
With the goal of serving more than 800 meals, Feast for the Streets offers help for individuals struggling this time of year.
“It is beautiful, it is wonderful, it is a blessing for everyone,” Shirley said.
