Feeding South Florida, one of the region’s largest food banks, is preparing for potential challenges that could strain its efforts to serve more than a million people across South Florida.
Recent federal funding cuts to programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the government shutdown are forcing the organization to adapt.
“We’ve had to be creative and really thoughtful about how we work around that,” said Chief Operating Officer Michael Miller.
The organization assists people annually across Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe County. The food bank’s mission is to end hunger by providing access to healthy food and raising awareness about food insecurity across the community.
Looking forward, Feeding South Florida remains confident it can work around these changes, but continues to call for federal and local support to sustain its mission.
