President Jeanette Nuñez led the ceremony, accompanied by the parents of Alexa Duran, one of the six victims. Núñez spoke about the community’s commitment to ensuring the tragedy is never forgotten.

“I know the family is very grateful for us being willing to do something like this and honoring their daughter’s legacy,” Núñez said..

A moment of silence was observed at 1:47 p.m., with bells ringing six times—once for each victim.

The ceremony also highlighted the steps taken since the tragedy, including improved safety measures and infrastructure changes to prevent similar accidents in the future.
