FIU in DC celebrates “305 Day” and highlights Miami’s achievements (includes video story)

On Thursday, FIU in DC celebrated its annual “305 Day” event in partnership with FIFA, E-merge Americas, and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau to highlight Miami and the university’s achievements over the past year.

The celebration featured Diane Vidoni, E-Merge Americas chief operating officer; Selcuk Uluagac, eminent scholar and chaired professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Science; and Jose Leoncio from FIFA’s government relations team, who discussed their upcoming projects in Miami and what makes the city great.

“We also think of Miami from the lens of environmental resilient infrastructure, population health, the future of tech talent, Latin America, and the Caribbean,” said Carlos Becerra, the associate vice president of government relations in FIU.

FIU students and alumni also enjoyed food, music, live mixology demos, and signature cocktails, with support from FIU’s Bacardi Center of Excellence.

“It feels great to know that many Miami people are up here being successful and doing what they need to do,” said FIU intern Eduardo Gonzalez. “And so it’s just great to be part of that community up here.”

This year, Miami will be one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup and will also host the E-merge Americas Global Tech Conference + Expo from April 22 to 24.
