Florida International University Professor Robert B. Dundas and a group of students sang old Irish songs and recited poetry at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center in honor of St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday.
The sounds of Ireland echoed as the students took center stage accompanied by a piano. It was the first performance.
Danny Alvarez, one of the students on stage, said the nerves never go away. But as a singer he used them to fuel the emotion in his performance. He said he learned this from his professor, who knew how much this moment meant to his students.
“It’s the first time their families get to hear how much they progressed during their time at FIU,” said Dundas. “I just think it’s kind of a shame that their families are supporting them studying music, and they have no idea how well their student is doing.”
