The second season of “FIU Survivor” — a show inspired by Survivor on CBS — is now in production.
Catalina Rodriguez is a junior majoring in business analytics, and started “FIU Survivor” in December 2024 to give students a chance to try a spinoff of the popular show with a $100 grand prize. The audience gets to experience the show and feel the anxious emotions of the competitors each episode.
After creating the first season with no outside funding, FIU’s Student Government Association and RSO approved an unspecified budget for season two. Rodriguez guaranteed a clear jump in quality in the new season.
“I’m really looking forward to how the social interactions are going to evolve,” said Rodriguez, “because we have arts vs smarts, and we really find one of the smartest and creative people on campus. I’m excited to see how they are going to fight one another.”
The crew and new group of participants meet at least two times a week for filming. Among the fresh faces is Franco Szejpiacki, who joined the crew for the second season.
“I’m a producer,” said Szejpiacki. “I take care of the camera planting, frame the shots, make sure everything goes as planned on days of production.”
Season two of FIU Survivor airs in fall 2026.
