FIU unveils a memorial in honor of victims of the bridge collapse (includes video story)

Four years after a tragic bridge collapse near Florida International University’s Modesto Maidique campus on SW Eighth Street, a memorial was held in honor of Alexa Duran and the other five victims.

Family, friends and the FIU community gathered for the unveiling of a statue that will remain in front of the main library.

It was a very emotional event. Tears, laughter and memories of the victims were shared.

The statue took 18 months to be designed and built. Its sculptor hopes that when students see it, they will know they can always be brave, no matter what the circumstances.
