FIU Vice Night goes behind the scenes (includes video story)

During FIU men’s basketball’s Vice Night on Wednesday, Jan. 28, the Ocean Bank Convocation Center showcased not only the game but the unseen broadcast operation powering the live coverage.

While fans focused on the action on the court, a control room production team worked behind the scenes managing cameras, audio, replays and graphics in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

The director orchestrated the production through constant communication and split-second decisions as student interns gained real-world experience.

“I’m learning a lot,” said intern Daniel Rossi-Montero. “I can’t ask for anything better than that.”

Ranndy Moreira is a junior at FIU majoring in Digital Broadcasting who is passionate about sports and media. He hopes to turn that passion into a career as a sports analyst or broadcaster for a major network like ESPN or NBC.
