Flooding in New Mexico leaves one sheriff stranded (includes video story)

On Saturday, following historic rainfall and severe flooding in Roswell, New Mexico, Chaves County Sheriff Mike Herrington was swept away in his police vehicle and had to climb onto the roof.

“I am sitting on top of my vehicle and a couple of people who were walking through the water came and sat here with me,” said Herrington on social media.

Herrington was one of many residents who were stranded in the flash flooding. At least two people are dead, while 309 people were rescued and hospitalized.

Roadways in Roswell are currently shut down due to the massive amount of debris.
