Florida International University demolishes pedestrian bridge remains

Six people died when the bridge near Florida International University crashed down on March 15, 2018, at Southwest 8th Street and 109th Avenue.

Though the road was closed and most of the area was cleared of debris, some parts of the structure remained for more than three years.

On Monday, crews started working on demolishing the remaining structures left on the FIU side to clean up the area and prepare for a new bridge.

The process of taking it down is expected to last about six weeks if the weather cooperates.

The new bridge will cross the same highway and connect Florida International University’s main campus to residential towers.
