Florida lawsuit over an undocumented driver was rejected by the Supreme Court (includes video story)

The Supreme Court rejected Florida’s attempt to sue California and Washington over policies that allow undocumented immigrants to acquire a commercial driver’s license, on Tuesday.

Florida filed a lawsuit following a car accident in August 2025 on the Florida Turnpike. Harjinder Singh, an undocumented Indian immigrant, allegedly tried to make an illegal U-turn when a minivan crashed into his trailer, killing three people.

Singh is facing three charges of vehicular manslaughter. Florida claims that Washington and California violated federal immigration laws and a driver’s limited English proficiency is hazardous across state lines.

Attorneys from California and Washington argued the Supreme Court should not be involved, saying it could set a precedent by allowing states to interfere with each other’s policies based on their indirect effects.

The Supreme Court rejected to hear the dispute, shutting down Florida’s legal challenge.
