Flag football gives SoFla athletes a shot at 2028 Olympics (includes video story)

American football is an emotional game that brings people from all over the world together. From community parks that host Pop Warner leagues to the bright lights of the NFL, it is every kid’s dream to play the game.

Not everyone is lucky enough to reach the professional level, but there is a new way for people to continue pursuing their football dreams.

Jordan Renta, a flag football player, has seen the game expand into one of the most popular sports, with leagues being created across the country. In 2028, the sport, known colloquially as “flag,” will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles.

“These local flag football leagues help grow the sport by allowing these players to get familiar with the rule sets, schemes and potentially give players an opportunity to compete for their country,” said Renta.

The sport has given football players the opportunity to represent their country in hopes of bringing home a gold medal.
