Andretti welcomes stateside support in Formula E’s return to Miami (includes video story)

When the ABB Formula E FIA World Championship makes its annual trip to a racetrack in the United States, one team bearing the name of a stateside legend feels its magnitude more than any other: Andretti.

The American-based team, one of ten represented in the all-electric grid, made its return to South Florida this past Saturday as part of the 2026 Miami E-Prix in the series’ twelfth season. Team principal Roger Griffiths was among those eager for Andretti Global’s homecoming to American fans and the special feeling associated with it.

“Obviously, our goal is to be on the podium and hopefully on that top step,” said Griffiths. “We’d love to hear that national anthem being played because of the success we’ve had.”

Griffiths watched on as his pair of drivers took on the Miami International Autodrome around Hard Rock Stadium for the very first time in series history. This was only the third time that Formula E competed in the 305, with last season’s race taking place at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Autodrome has hosted Formula One races since 2022.

Although Miami is known for its warm weather and sunshine in January, the forecasted race day outlook of cold temperatures and rain caught Griffiths by surprise. That didn’t stifle his excitement for the series coming back to Dade County.

“That can throw a huge wrench into all of it. I’m expecting some super exciting racing,” said Griffiths. “This is where Formula E needs to be in the United States and we’re super pleased.”

Part of Andretti’s lineup for Season 12 is seven-time race winner and Season 9 champion Jake Dennis. The English driver took home a win from pole in the first race of the season at Sao Paulo and entered this round second in the drivers’ championship standings. He has yet to finish a race outside of the top 10 this season after a 10th place run in Miami.

“I’m feeling good inside the car, which I haven’t done for some time now, from the past couple of years,” said Dennis. “We just need to try and keep that momentum going.”

The other side of the team is represented by Brazilian rookie Felipe Drugovich. Despite being a newcomer to a full season of Formula E, Drugovich ran several rookie practice sessions from 2023 to 2024 and filled in for Nyck de Bries for one race last season. The former Formula 2 world champion made the final round of qualifying and started second on the grid in Miami before an early crash led him to an 18th-place finish.

“The event has been great. It treated me very well until the race,” said Drugovich after the checkered flag. “I was feeling really well with the car. It’s the first time in the season that I really felt like that. I was happy and hopefully we can carry this momentum for the next race.”

Andretti is considered widespread in the global motorsports scene. Made iconic by racing driver Mario Andretti, the team currently competes in INDYCAR, INDY NXT, Formula E and IMSA.

The lithium-powered team will fly to Saudi Arabia for the next two races of the Season 12 championship in the streets of Jeddah on the weekend of Feb. 13-14.
