Airplane passenger brings box cutters, causes emergency landing (includes video story)

Lillian Hoffman was one of the passengers on Frontier Flight 1761 heading from Cincinnati to Tampa when she learned something was wrong. A passenger had brought a box cutter on board the plane.

“When he went to the bathroom, the passenger in the window seat says ‘Hey, he has a knife and he’s threatening to go stab people, we need to go say something to somebody,'” Hoffman said,

She reported it, and the plane was diverted to Atlanta, where police removed the suspect from the plane. Authorities say after searching his carry-on luggage, they found a second box cutter.

Frontier Airlines issued a statement saying “No injuries to passengers or crew have been reported.” The airline also made sure to accommodate the passengers by booking them overnight stay at a hotel and a flight the following morning.

A statement from TSA said: “The situation with Frontier Airlines is under investigation with the US Attorney’s office, as they are the lead federal agency in this matter.”
