Cuban-American artist David Anasagasti, better known by his followers as “Ahol Sniffs Glue” and painter of signature drowsy eyes, was recently recognized by the city of North Miami for his innovative project “Geographies of Trash.”
He transforms discarded material he finds on the road as he bikes around the city into collective works of art. Then, by using Instagram and other social media platforms, the artist shares limited clues as to where his art can be found, inviting his community of thousands of followers to engage in a fun scavenger hunt.
“I think it’s awareness about art but also about trash and the fact that it can be repurposed into art,” said North Miami Commissioner Daniela Jean.
FIU students, faculty and staff members attended the event as well as some of Anagasti’s followers, who came together to support the artist they have been following for years.
