After more than 100 people perish, Doral steps up to help flood victims in Texas (includes video story)

Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) is helping deliver essentials to victims in need Monday after flash floods swept through Texas last weekend. Over 100 people have died and dozens are still missing.

In Doral, volunteers loaded two trucks with non-perishable foods, batteries and hygiene products on Monday. The trucks are heading to Kerr County, one of the areas greatly impacted by the floods.

“We’re here just to support them and their immediate needs and give them a little bit of food and hygiene so they can make it to the next day,” said Jeff Popvich, vice president of global operations at GEM.

Crews with the organization are also at the scene helping with relief efforts, passing out cash cards and kits.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he will send water rescue teams to the sites. GEM will continue to send neccesary supplies.

“We’re just here to help. That’s the main thing,” said Popvich, “to make sure people can get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
