Gamers celebrate Halloween early at Arcade Odyssey (includes video story)

As Halloween crept closer, locals gathered at Arcade Odyssey in Kendall this past Saturday in costume to celebrate the holiday, with neon lights and arcade classics.

The arcade has been a local staple for gamers of all ages, unique for embracing retro systems over modern ticket-vending games.

“Arcade Odyssey is where it’s at, it’s got the people and the vibes,” said guest Christian Oliva, who was dressed as Nickelodeon cartoon character “Danny Phantom.”

While the costume contest is the main event of the night, some come here for other highlights. Such as Oliver Ortiz, who came in to play dance dance revolution and win a bet against friends at air hockey.

Owner of Arcade Odyssey, Rick Medina, says his highlight of the night “was seeing everyone come together in costume and the creative ways they put them together.”

The winners of the costume contest took home free cards with tokens to play their favorite games.
