Six dead after helicopter crashes in Hudson River (includes video story)

Six people are dead after a helicopter crashed into New York’s Hudson River on Thursday, claiming the lives of three children and three adults.

The sightseeing helicopter was in the air for approximately 16 minutes before plunging into the water near the Pier 40 marine terminal. Emergency responders, including New York City Police Department divers and New York City Fire Department crews, quickly arrived at the scene and conducted rescue efforts, pulling all six victims from the submerged wreckage.

“We were met by first responders and they told us they did everything they can to try to save these victims,” New York Mayor Eric Adams. “You can see the trauma on their faces.”

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to nearby hospitals before dying from their injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the victims were a family visiting from Spain. The crash has left first responders and city officials shaken as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.
