Pet owners warned of high insurance costs (includes video story)

September is National Pet Insurance Month, when owners nationwide are reminded of the hefty price of looking after their furry best friends.

Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst at LendingTree, confirmed that the price of surgeries and other veterinary costs are high. In 2023, insurance ranged anywhere from $400 to $700 for cats and dogs, respectively.

“All pet insurances are definitely not created equal,” warned Shulz. “It’s absolutely worth your time to take the effort to shop around.”

Nationwide Pet, the country’s largest provider of this insurance, will drop a large amount of policies within the next year. Owners are encouraged to start comparing potential coverage plans to skirt economic unrest.
