“Hot Wheels” library teaches Colorado community about cars and maintenance (includes video story)

A new type of miniature library has sprouted in Colorado Springs. But instead of books, it’s stocked with Hot Wheels cars.

“Cars For Everyone” has seven locations and counting in Colorado Springs. Founder Jason Franklin started the miniature library after seeing kids uninterested in cars like he was as a kid.

“It kind of went away,” said Franklin. “They aren’t teaching cars in shop class, kids aren’t excited about real, loud cars.”

Aside from displaying a sizable Hot Wheels collection, the organization also teaches basic car maintenance for those that never learned.

“I like to learn things even though I’m disabled,” said Mike Crank, a mentorship program participant. “I do want to learn things and be better in life than not knowing something I’ve never been taught before.”
